Celebrating 50 Years of Service: Huw’s Remarkable Career at Denco Fluid Systems
This year, we are proud to celebrate a truly exceptional milestone: Huw’s 50th anniversary with Denco Fluid Systems.
From a 16-year-old apprentice to a highly respected and experienced team member, Huw’s journey reflects not only personal dedication but the evolution of the business itself. His five decades of continuous service are a testament to his character, professionalism, and deep-rooted commitment to engineering excellence.
An Apprenticeship That Laid the Foundation
Huw began his career in 1974, joining as a craft apprentice directly after school. Following a year of technical training at Wiggins Apprentice School, he moved to hands-on learning at Denco’s Holmer Road site.
His four-year apprenticeship provided exposure to various departments and introduced him to the working culture of the business — a time fondly remembered for maintenance routines, camaraderie, and traditions like “Fish Tuesdays” and “Steak Wednesdays.” He also recalls seasonal breaks for local broad bean harvesting and mushroom picking — a reflection of the times and the strong community links of the era.
From Apprentice to Supervisor
After completing his apprenticeship, Huw joined the lubrication team, working on equipment that — remarkably — he still supports today. His experience and reliability soon led to a supervisory role, followed by a long tenure in the Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal Division.
During this time, Huw was involved in several high-profile projects, including major works for Heathrow Terminal 5 and the London Olympic Village. He also spent a decade working the night shift, demonstrating his flexibility and dedication through every phase of the business’s development.
Supporting Key Transitions
Huw played a key role in the successful relocation of operations from Holmer Road to our Moreton-on-Lugg facility, overseeing assembly operations and supporting the transition of key functions during a significant phase of business change.
Coming Full Circle
Roughly ten years ago, Huw returned to the lubrication division at Denco Fluid Systems’ current Rotherwas site. In a meaningful full-circle moment, he was once again working with the very same style of lubrication pumps he began with in the early days of his career.
Today, Huw continues to bring immense value to the team, offering not only practical expertise but a deep understanding of our history, systems, and standards. His loyalty, knowledge, and spirit are deeply appreciated by everyone at Denco.

Huw’s 50 years with the company is more than just a work anniversary — it is a legacy of consistency, craftsmanship, and quiet leadership. His contribution to Denco Fluid Systems cannot be overstated, and we are honoured to have him as part of our team.
